Secrecy and screen-hiding
Quickly switching screens, hiding the phone, new accounts you didn't know about, or anxiety when you're nearby can signal a relationship or content they don't want seen.
New 'friends' and gifts
Talk of an online friend they've never met, unexplained in-game items or money, or a 'mentor'/'boyfriend/girlfriend' from a game deserve a gentle conversation.
Emotional shifts
Sudden withdrawal, sleeplessness, panic around the phone, or new us-vs-them or hateful language can indicate grooming, sextortion, bullying, or radicalization.
What to do
Don't confront with accusations — open with curiosity and the 'you won't be in trouble' message. If you suspect a crime, preserve evidence and report to the platform and NCMEC before deleting anything.
